一班從溫室離開的學生聚首母校,高唱“May we who came here as schoolboys, Mature and graduates as gentlemen”時,未想過多人再聚是已三個年頭。三年前他有道理,質疑我們對知識的了解,問「你係咪真係識先?」;三年後有人分享說他以後會在主處用同樣口吻、眼神,質問「你點上黎架?」。而這不就我們所認識的他麼?
現今有教師抱怨學生太壞、太難教,那麼他們應該想一想,是誰在影響學生的呢?無疑Phyleung從前是嚴了一點,罵人從不留情面,但「養不教,父之過;教不嚴,師之惰」啊!從來他就不只是師,更是父吧。Fr. Deignan曾於一訪問中說過“The standard of behaviour was going down, and the value of youth, they were all not very positive.” 箇中關係,一覽無遺──因為Phyleung不多啊。
當大學講師為教而講,中學老師為公開考試成績而「努力」,姑不論良莠,誰理你道德觀念如何?禮貌人品是否合格?當現實社會中,成績、薪金與成就為正比時,我不得不再一次向Phyleung再一次表示我的敬意, “Thank you, Lord, for our Wah Yan days. And for this precious education”.
